Zero miles hiked

After looking at some of the reports of snow in the Sierra, and being concerned about some of the pictures we see, we decide to take a day off in town.

At our current pace we are only a little over a week out from the first big high Sierra pass- 13,120 foot Forrester Pass, pictured above. We would like to push that date back a week, so we plan to intentionally take a few days off until we get to the High Sierra. We will still be encountering a lot of snow, but even an extra week can change the conditions considerably.

We do nothing of note. We eat a lot of Thai food. I work on the blog. We watch movies. I try to do a makeshift upper body workout using hotel furniture to help slow the atrophy of my upper body. We buy fresh fruit and vegetables from the grocery store. This town is weird and dead, but somehow also excellent. We are back to trail tomorrow.

The format for commenting seems to have changed. Had a hard time figuring it out, but OK now. I imagine you are getting additional clothing/gear for the cold/snowy Sierras. I also had been wondering if you were doing an upper body workout to keep your body from consuming muscle mass for energy despite your gargantuan caloric consumption – and expenditure.

I am trying to, but it is hard to maintain when under a big caloric deficit. I usually only have energy for it in town.

We will be adding bear cans(food storage required by law), ice axes and crampons. It will add nearly 5 lbs to our packs.
