4 miles to town. We sleep in, knowing we only have a short distance to go today. This is a popular day hiking area. We can smell soap and shampoo on the air many minutes before we even encounter other people. Our senses are heightened from our time out in the bush living like coyotes. We pass Echo Summit, a place used for Olympic training due to the high elevation here.

In town we book a motel room for a few nights and we spend these two days stuffing ourselves with food. Indian. Thai. Sub sandwiches. It is our battle against weight loss, and we make an admirable effort to pack in the calories.

On the Tahoe waterfront there is an evening concert and we attend that with a few of our best hiker friends- anvil, frogger, and lumberjack.

Time passes quickly while we run around town doing laundry, writing blog posts and getting me a long overdue new pair of shoes.

Back to trail tomorrow.
