zero miles

4 miles to town. We sleep in, knowing we only have a short distance to go today. This is a popular day hiking area. We can smell soap and shampoo on the air many minutes before we even encounter other people. Our senses are heightened from our time out in the bush living like coyotes. We pass Echo Summit, a place used for Olympic training due to the high elevation here.

In town we book a motel room for a few nights and we spend these two days stuffing ourselves with food. Indian. Thai. Sub sandwiches. It is our battle against weight loss, and we make an admirable effort to pack in the calories.

On the Tahoe waterfront there is an evening concert and we attend that with a few of our best hiker friends- anvil, frogger, and lumberjack.

Time passes quickly while we run around town doing laundry, writing blog posts and getting me a long overdue new pair of shoes.

Back to trail tomorrow.

We usually aim for every 400.miles. by then the internal structure of the shoe breaks down and you can feel it extra wear on your knees and ankles. We replace earlier if the shoes rip apart. I am my on my 4th pair now.

Concert at Tahoe – what a life!!
I have been rationing your blog posts for enjoyment with morning coffee (no more panettone), understanding that fatigue and cell reception prevents daily entries. So I always seem a little behind, but am really enjoying following along like the others.

Your pictures of you guys and others show happy faces.- very nice. I still envy you.

Well, maybe most of the time,
