In order to complete this trail by September 1st, as we have arranged with our respective jobs, we will need to average 25 miles per day. With that in mind we wake up at sunrise and set a steady pace.

The morning takes us by dozens of small lakes, formed when glaciers scoured this landscape during the last ice age.

The next few hours are viewless, through a forest, and we put on podcasts and zone out while walking. Sometimes hiking is a boring, low level grind, so it is nice to listen to something to take your mind somewhere else. I have sporadic service and am able to text my dad and some friends, which also makes the day fly by.

In the evening we climb up a beautiful ridge and enjoy some great views of lake Tahoe. We end the day at sunset, having gone 34 miles. This is our longest day of the trip, and Amber’s biggest mileage day ever.
