In the morning we hike under I-80 via a small tunnel. The highway goes from San Francisco to New Jersey- another cross country, man made path.

We climb up to a ridge, and for the First time all summer we have a view and see no huge snowy peaks ahead of us. Our conditions on this hike are changing rapidly.

There is a heat advisory in the area, so we have to pay special attention to hydration. It is funny to be walking in 90 degree temperatures while still encountering a 6 foot wall of snow along the trail.

Mid day we see our first bear of the trip- a cinnamon colored black bear. He stares at us long enough for me to snag a picture before jetting away.

Right before dark we see a cooler on the side of the trail. Inside it contained grapes, cheese, and all sorts of health potions- green powders and mushroom supplements.

We sleep in an empty campground not yet open for the season, and enjoy the easy access to a water faucet and pit toilets.

Got to love those who deposit trail gifts. Seems to be hot everywhere this summer, but the 90degrees at elevation is a surprise. So bears are still a thing I guess. Pit toilets. — what a surprise luxury.

It is such an incredible treat to walk up to a gift like this. Any variety in diet feels like a massive luxury.

it’s awesome that people would put up these coolers with treats in them like this.

and to see 6 foot snow walls in 90° weather is definitely interesting thing to see!
