July 4
1206-1238
Papa bear mailed himself a package to the post office in Sierra city that included more food than he needed and he generously gave us a ton of his extras- including a lot of electrolytes, protein recovery drinks and green drink potions. The novel food provides a huge morale boost. I have devolved into being a newborn: my mood revolves around consuming calories.

It is absurdly hot again today and we trudge along in a daze listening to podcasts. There are some great, piped springs through this stretch- with ice cold water to help ease the pain of high temps.

Notably we get our first sighting of a cascade mountain range volcano- Mount Lassen- north of us.

We pass by a mucky looking pond with a very fitting name.

It is the 4th of July, but no fireworks are seen or heard. It is far too hot and dry to engage in holiday festivities.

I have nothing else to say about today. It was too hot to think.
